Service Level One Coatings are essential protective layers used inside reactor containment areas where any coating failure could negatively impact the functioning of critical post-accident fluid systems. These specialized coatings prevent the flaking, peeling, or degradation — even under severe accident conditions — of coating, which maintains the integrity and safety of the reactor. They are rigorously tested and must adhere to strict guidelines set by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), which cover their selection, application, quality assurance, inspection, and maintenance.
EMC is currently approved by several utilities to procure and apply SL-1 coatings under the guidance of our Coatings Engineer. These coatings are considered “safety-related” in nature. Therefore, EMC adheres to the highest level of quality control during application.
EMC has a trained staff of applicators qualified to spray, brush, touch up, and roll multiple SL-1 products. We work with manufacturers to train our in-house applicators and approve our application process.
