Driving Excellence in Motor Repair Since 1960

Driving Excellence in Motor Repair Since 1960

Chesapeake was home to very few motor repair shops when James Lloyd King Sr and his son James Lloyd King JR decided to set up shop in 1960 on Liberty Street in South Norfolk.

Given the area’s long history of industrialization, the small shop initially served motor repair services to the niche industries of ship repair, pulp and paper, steel, chemical, and meat packing. Joining the ranks as one of the very first companies in the area that catered to these sectors, our family-owned company has quickly grown from eight employees to over 260 motor winders, mechanics, engineers, field service technicians, and talented talented administrative professionals who all strive to provide the best quality rotating equipment repairs in the industry.

Several expansions, new facilities, and a CEO change to James Lee King (James Lloyd Jr’s son) later, EMC now specializes in the repair, rebuilding, re-manufacturing, and re-engineering of all electro-mechanical rotating equipment and serves nuclear, commercial, and industrial customers throughout the USA and Canada. The company continues to operate as a family-owned business, which is true to the core that started the company from the very beginning.
